What types of pets do you care for?

At Emily's Kernow Pet Services, we welcome all different varieties of pets. So far I have experience caring for Dogs and Puppies, Cats and Kittens, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and Horses. Rates are variable depending on the animal and levels of care. 🐱

Why don't you offer boarding/daycare in your own premises?

At Emily's Kernow Pet Services, we believe your furbabies thrive better in the comfort of their own home. A big part of why owners are so hesitant to put their dogs in kennels is the unfamiliarity that can put unnecessary stress on your pet. 🐶

A study conducted by American based non-profit Animal Advocacy organisation 'Faunalytics' found the following statistics when analyzing pet owners and their relationship with kennels/external boarding services:

50% said their biggest concern about kennel boarding was that it put their companion animal’s emotional health at risk.

33% of companion animal guardians have had a bad experience with kennel boarding.

Respondents felt that the greatest benefits of in-home companion animal care include:

75% believe companion animal maintains daily routine in comfortable and familiar surroundings.

How do you ensure the safety of my home and pet and what happens in case of an emergency?

At Emily's Kernow Pet Services, your furbabies safety is our absolute priority and starts from the moment the door is opened to your property to leaving the home for walks. For this reason, we stress the importance of being briefed on any quirks or behaviours your pet may have.

Key protocols for me whilst caring for your furbabies and home include:

Thorough Meet & Greet: I offer a free initial consultation (within a 5 mile radius) to understand your pet's routine, temperament, medical needs, and house rules. This helps build trust and ensure clear expectations.

Secure Entry Protocols: I follow strict key handling procedures to protect your home’s security.

Limited Access Policy: I do not invite guests into your home and only access areas necessary for pet care (as agreed upon in advance).

Routine Check-ins: For longer stays, I provide regular updates via text, photo, or video so you can see how your pet is doing and know your home is in good hands.

Pet-Proofing Awareness: I check for any home hazards like open windows, loose cords, toxic plants, or accessible food items that could harm your pet.

Health & Safety Vigilance: I monitor pets closely for signs of illness, stress, or unusual behavior, and adjust care accordingly.

I may also inquire as to whether flea and worming routines are up to date and where appropriate, vaccinations have been given.

Pet insurance details may be requested if necessary, however we understand owners’ circumstances and practices can vary.

As of April 2016 (dogs) and June 2024 (cats) it is compulsory by law that your pet is microchipped and this is up to date with your current details.

In general, I like to air on the side of caution with regards to off-lead walks, unless one or more of the following conditions are met - A) the location is secure with no avenues of escape or triggers to encourage bolting - B) it is an area of minimal traffic of other dogs and C) the owner can demonstrate their dog has good recall. This is for the safety of yours and other peoples’ pets. Cornwall is home to many isolated and secure dog walking paddocks, purpose built for our reactive and nervous friends. Please let me know ahead of time if you would like me to take your babies to one of these – fees may apply.

Emergency Contact List: Contact numbers in case of emergency will be requested and details of registered veterinary practices will be queried.

First Aid: Aside from being Pet First Aid Certified, I am well versed in acting promptly and confidently in emergency situation and carry a pet first aid kit on me at all times.

Home-Related Incidents: If there's a break-in, fire, or utility issue, I contact emergency services and you (or your backup), and secure the home as best as possible.

Full Public Liability Insurance: I am fully insured, offering added peace of mind for home and pet safety.

Canine Behavior Awareness: I have completed various courses in Canine Behaviour, Health and Welfare to broaden my understanding of those in my care.
